Beef Chow Mein (dry) Recipe list

Beef chow mein (Dry version) is always a popular dish in any Chinese Takeaway, and for good reason, it’s f%$king delicious. We have previously done this recipe as a live stream, but wanted to make a stand-alone video for it, as following a live stream can be tricky, me and mum are always verbally replying to comments so instructions can be difficult to keep up with.


Beef chow mein is a little bit harder to cook than a normal chow mein, but that’s only due to the way you have to cook it, and there are a few more preparation steps to take to marinate the beef. As we explain in our video most Chinese Takeways will make a large batch of beef and freeze it.





Ingredients list


Beef and marinade

1Kg topside beef

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

1 dessert spoon light soy sauce

2 dessert spoons dark soy sauce

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon MSG (optional)

1 heap dessert spoon potato starch


The Chow Mein

110-150g of marinade beef

1 block lucky boat noodles

100g bean sprouts

1/3 sliced white onion

2 sliced spring onions

1.5 dessert spoons dark soy sauce

1 teaspoon light soy sauce

1/3 teaspoon MSG (optional)

¼ teaspoon salt

1 table spoon vegetable oil

2-3 litres of water (to pre cook the noodles)
